How Boston's Quiet Revival Changed the World, and Our Challenge Today
Doug Hall's picture

In the video below, hear Doug Hall explain Boston’s Quiet Revival – how God worked through unknown people in hidden, forgotten neighborhoods to significantly change the face of this secular city.  In over four decades, the number of churches in Boston – many of which were planted in the city's worst slums – has nearly doubled (from approximately 300 in 1970 to 575 in 2010) and the estimated percentage of the city’s population in churches has increased from about 3% to about 14%. Christians participated in bringing change to many of Boston’s neighborhoods, and many people groups within this global city area are authentically exhibiting faith.

The challenge: Now that the Christian faith has matured into larger churches and Christian organizations, along with the prestige of higher education and more resources, our challenge is not to forget the core of our faith, nor to take credit for what God alone does.  But rather, let us remember the roots of the early pioneers, bearing in mind Paul’s admonition to the first century Christians that “not many of you were wise…, influential, …of noble birth. But God chose the foolish,…weak,…lowly, …despised things that are not – to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.” (I Cor. 1:26-29)

Thank you so much for the

Thank you so much for the alictres about prayer and revival. I’ve had a burden for prayer and revival for about 10 years, but find myself with only a few others who carry the same burden. Everyone talks about how our nation needs revival, but few make the connection to their prayer lives to make any difference. I hope others will read these alictres and realize revival won’t happen without persistence in prayer. Most churches have abandoned prayer meetings for other activities. When will a return to prayer become important to us? Your alictres will hopefully stir the revival fire by showing prayer’s power in times past and making the connection to what it can do in our future.
